Symbol Yachts have been around since 1982, when Taiwan builders were consigned by American dealers to build relatively inexpensive trawlers and motor yachts. They have come a long way in the last 7 years when notable naval architect Jack Sarin came on board and revamped their design. Since then, Symbol has capitalized with savvy buyers who want a boat with custom features. Thus, no two Symbols are alike. These boats all come with a roomy 17.5 to 19.5 foot beam with walkaround decks, handsome styling (looks like a junior Westbay or Westport – both styles originating under Jack’s pen) and gorgeous cherry or teak interiors with either galley up or down, nice pilothouses and mid-master staterooms. The engine rooms and lazarettes are well-laid out for maintaining and cruising. Indeed, these are ideal yachts for a couple to explore the Bahamas, Pacific Northwest or the famed “Great Loop”. Plus they draw less than 5’ and have excellent seakeeping.
Sarin-designed models include the pilothouse, galley-up Symbol 54, Symbol 58, Symbol 62, Symbol 64 (a 62 with extended cockpit), galley-down Symbol 66 and Symbol 68 (note large settee in pilothouse). The Symbol 66 and 75 flushdeck offers an aft cabin and 3 staterooms forward with a beautiful euro-style transom. Larger projects are underway, including an 80’ Symbol yachtfisherman that is soon to launch in 2009.
